HEIDELBERG NEWS - Heidelberg Police Station, which recently underwent some personnel operational changes, is also on the verge of bidding farewell to its Station Commander, Lt. Col Sipho Dyani, at the end of this month.
Lt. Col Dyani, who has been promoted to the rank of a fully-fledged colonel, has been deployed to the Thembalethu Police Station in George, where he will pursue his career - hopefully until his retirement.
This soft-spoken law enforcement officer boasts a career spanning 34 years of dedicated service to many communities in the Western Cape, of which Nyanga was his first “port of call” in March 1991.
He was then deployed to Phillipi, back to Nyanga, then Kwanokuthula in Plettenberg Bay, after which he went on to Riversdale and lastly to Great Brakriver, where he was also the station commander until his transfer to Heidelberg in October 2019.
When asked if he enjoyed his stay in Heidelberg, he responded, “Yes, I enjoyed the more than five years I’ve been in my position to serve the community of Heidelberg and district, but the last year has been very challenging due to lack of, especially, personnel resources."
However, he stated emphatically that he has mixed feelings about leaving Heidelberg, but wishes all his colleagues and the next station commander well in the quest to render their best to the community.
