WITSAND NEWS - The charming coastal town of Witsand played host to the Witsand-Port Beaufort 2024 Donkey Derby, a unique and entertaining community fundraising event on Friday 22 November.
The Donkey Derby, which took place for the third consecutive year, served a dual purpose as its profits were donated not only to CANSA but also Witsand-Port Beaufort Projects, ensuring the event continues to leave a lasting impact.
Tekkies Kotze, the event’s main organiser, reflected on the successes of the previous year, highlighting several key initiatives made possible by funds raised during the 2023 event.
These included the installation of a permanent "Welcome to Witsand and Port Beaufort" sign, the construction of a wheelchair-accessible public toilet, and a contribution to the town’s annual Santa Run.
Projects planned for 2025 include publishing a new holiday guide for the area, and Wi-Fi for the local camera system for 12 months.
Kotze expressed heartfelt gratitude to the event’s sponsors, whose generosity made the Derby’s success possible. Special thanks were extended to Anchorage Witsand, Ellie’s on Main, Spasie on Breede, Bitcoin (Witsand), Nella se Winkel, Koffie ’n Kletz, The Sands Port Beaufort, The Specialists, Ashton Winery, and Dis Mos Lewe.
The Witsand-Port Beaufort Donkey Derby continues to be a shining example of how community spirit and creativity can come together to drive meaningful change while creating cherished memories.
