2nd Phase of Covid-19 vaccination kicks off

HESSEQUA NEWS - The second phase of the vaccination programme will be launched on 17 May, which will officially kick off mass vaccination in the Western Cape.

The second phase of COVID-19 vaccination will target elderly citizen, 60 years and older.

The Executive Mayor of Hessequa Municipality, Grant Riddles is calling all eligible residents who want to be vaccinated to register on the Department of Health’s database. Walk-ins are not permitted.

How to register on the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS)
People 60 or older must register to receive their free Covid-19 vaccine by following this quick and easy steps:

Make sure you have internet access
You will need your ID/Passport/Refugee number, as well as a smartphone, tablet or computer
Connect to the internet and go to https://vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za/#/ or visit www.westerncape.gov.za and click on the link (access to the internet is available at all libraries and E-centres in Hessequa).

Follow the instructions to complete your registration
You can also dial *134*832# and follow the prompts (free on all South African Networks) or WhatsApp the word REGISTER to 0600 123456
When you have registered, the EVDS system will send a SMS to the phone number you provided. You will receive a second SMS to tell you when and where you will have to get your vaccination. You will need to show this at vaccination sites together with your identification document.

The electronic system ensures that the correct number of vaccine doses are distributed to the correct vaccine sites based on the national database.

Premier Winde announced on 13 May that the vaccination sites will not all be operational at once but will be brought online gradually as more vaccines become available and that some sites will only be operational on a rotational basis and not each day. The key focus next week will be to use the first tranche of 33 900 vaccines to vaccinate those registered in Old Age homes across the Western Cape.

SMSs confirming the date and vaccination site:

The overwhelming majority of people who have registered should start getting the SMSs in the next two to three weeks. This is because of the focus on vaccinating Old Age Homes on-site next week and the Western Cape Government’s plan to bring vaccination sites online in a gradual way.

It is important to remember:

On the scheduled day, take your ID and present the second SMS.
Arrive on the scheduled day of your booking. Not on a different day.
Walk-ins are not permitted, therefor do not go to a vaccination site unless you have officially been invited to come for your vaccine.
