HEIDELBERG NEWSFLASH - As their contribution to the Mandela Day Centenary Celebrations, the Kleine Pikkewyntjie Educare pre-schoolers treated the Senior Citizens Club of their town.
The guests turned up dressed smartly in traditional African attire, while the staff of the local Duivenhoks Library treated all with song and dance.
To top it all, the Mayor of Hessequa, Grant Riddles arrived, and surprised each of the children with a packet of luxuries.
Riddles said, “I felt so honoured today to be part of Kleine Pikkewyne’s outreach to the elderly. Nelson Mandela is an icon. He has spread love and togetherness. I felt the love and warmth from young and old here, which was wonderful to experience.”
All across South Africa, on this day, private and public institutions, including churches, schools, universities and worker unions, and in most major cities of the world, people whose lives were touched by the Madiba magic, pause to reflect on the life of this world icon. By some act or deed, they reach out to others in gestures of goodwill - all in the name of Nelson Mandela, the herdsboy from Africa, who rose to become one of the greatest statespersons and humanitarians, the world has ever seen.
