RIVERSDALE NEWS - The Riversdale Cansa Committee must be one of the smallest in the land, but certainly the most energetic.
With Nella Perks at the helm and a little help from friends and family members, they managed to pull off a three-course dinner on Friday 15 September and raise approximately R8 000 for this worthwhile charity.
The DR Church Riversdale West kindly donated their hall and as there had been another function earlier in the day, there was a flurry of activity to get the venue ready in time.
With Cansa's theme of 'Purple for Power' overlays of that colour brightened the tables and arrangements of spring fynbos donated and arranged by Yvonne van der Berg and Esmeralda Liebenberg added to the charm.
The 'chefs' who were responsible for the food, Perks and Sal Carter, raced home to put together last minute touches to the dinner and then staggered back, loaded with dishes, in time for the welcome and explanation of where the funds were disappearing to by Lucinda Viljoen from head office in George.
The evening wouldn't have been the same without the music provided by Hanna Esterhuizen on piano and James Stanley on clarinet. It started with a sing-song to get things going; a few joined in with gusto while others looked around with 'who me, sing?' expressions on their faces. Familiar and much-loved tunes were played softly in the background until the meal was served.
Dinner comprised of choice of two soups - butternut and wild mushroom, foraged by Carter, followed by gammon and chicken pie and a variety of vegetables and salads. Ice-cream and chocolate sauce completed what turned out to be a most delicious meal – so the guests said.
Some of the guests at the event.
"It was a relaxed and pleasant evening, which could not have been the success if it was without the support of donations from various individuals and business in the village, for which we are most grateful. Not forgetting all those who attended and gave anonymously and generously and with such good grace.
"It would indeed be wonderful if we could get the same enthusiastic support from the community at our Relay for Life, which is to be held on 11 and 12 November at the Riversdale Rugby Club.
We hope to see you there!" said Carter.
