HESSEQUA NEWS FLASH - The Western Cape Government Health will roll out a supplementary immunisation campaign from 31 October to 18 November.
The campaign will target children between the ages 0-59 months. It focus is to vaccinate children against polio and administer vitamin A supplements and Mebendazole deworming. In certain areas nutritional screening will also be done to identify malnourished children.
This campaign is supplementary and does not replace the routine vaccinations as indicated in their Road to Health booklet. The aim of this campaign is to increase population immunity against Polio, which is a potential deadly illnesses, while providing additional child survival interventions such as Vitamin A supplements.
Parents must ensure that their children receive this supplementary immunisation if they form part of the target groups as indicated below:
- Oral Polio Vaccine to all children from birth to 59 months.
- Vitamin A supplementation to all children aged 12 - 59 months.
- Nutritional screening in selected districts or sub-districts of all children aged 6 - 59 months.
- Mebendazole deworming to all children aged 24 - 59 months.
