STILBAAI NEWS - The NSRI, Sea Rescue will now be offering a Full-Time Rescue Course for sea going rescue crew.
The same material and sea time as a full-time course will be completed in an intensive two week period. Closing date for applications is 5 June.
The first course will be held in Stilbaai with day trips to NSRI-rescue bases in Witsand and Mossel Bay.
It will take place from 25 June to 7 July.
These courses will be sponsored and, for this reason, formal applications will need to be made by candidates. Foreign students who would like to participate may be accepted but will not qualify for sponsorship and will need to pay the full course fee of R6 800.
This course is for seagoing crew, so candidates should feel comfortable in the water, should be willing to learn boating skills and become part of a dynamic team.
Modules include basic seamanship, rope work, pyrotechnics, collision regulations, basic radio work, emergency procedures, practical scenario planning and interpersonal skills.
At the end of each day, everyone will join in to wash down the boat, refuel and repack the equipment.
There will be no class on Sundays.
