RIVERSDALE NEWS - Max Baise, South Africa's second oldest living Springbok referee, turned 90 last Friday. 50 family members and close friends attended the happy celebrations at De Doorn Vinotel in Riversdale.
Max sprung a huge surprise on the unsuspecting guests when he announced that he would donate his Springbok blazer to his only son, Ronald, who specially flew in from England for this occasion.
Max also handed over his Springbok tie to his son-in-law, Peter Fairbrother, and his Springbok scarf to his only daughter, Bernice Fairbrother.
Max refereed four tests between the Springboks and the British and Irish Lions, the most of all SA referees.
These tests, played in 1968 and 1974, brought Max's name to the fore at the time.
With Max is his son Ronald (left) and son-in-law, Peter Fairbrother (right).
