WITSAND NUUS - Witsand Arts and Crafts Day Market were hosted at the local bowls club on Saturday 20 April.
The community decided to give back to the Community Animal Rescue Society (CARS) in Riversdale by hosting a white elephant table and a lucky draw, which raised a combined amount of R8 130. Local businesses sponsoring the lucky draw raised prizes worth R10 000.
A local agency who sponsored the marketing for the event, also hosted an Easter Egg Hunt in which 44 kids, from toddlers to 10-year-old children, took part. The proceeds of the hunt were also donated to CARS. Sandra Williams Lotz of CARS, who attended the event, handed over the prizes and received the donations from Elize Garlick, the event coordinator.
The Arts and Crafts Day Market is a community initiative which aims to promote locally sourced artists and vendors who create handmade products, thereby helping small startup entrepreneurs in the local community.
"The market is for one day only and is hosted during the tourism season. This was the second market and can be regarded as a huge success, which is paving the way forward," said Garlick. Contact her at 079 353 6191 or garlickelize@gmail.com for more information.
