RIVERSDALE NEWS EN VIDEO - More than 70 people will be attending a bee information day at the Drogerivier Community Hall on Die Vlakte on Saturday 27 July. Contact Andre de Jager at 082 922 6756 for more information.
“There is a lot of interest and 70 people have already indicated that they will attend,” says André de Jager, chairperson of the South Cape Bee Industry Association, who will be hosting the day.
The focus with be on sustainable beekeeping with the help of canola.
Registration takes place at 09:00 at the Drogerivier Community Hall some 15 km from Riversdale on the Vlakte road to Vermaaklikheid.
Charles Salmon of the Western Cape Department of Agriculture will give an overview of the demand for pollination in the Southern Cape.
Mike Allsopp, of the Agricultural Research Council, will answer the question whether bees are beneficial to canola production. Allsopp will also discuss sustainable beekeeping for pollination through splitting and queen rearing.

The afternoon session from 14:00 to 15:30 consists of a demonstration of splitting bees on canola.
The day is jointly presented by the South Cape Bee Industry Association, Western Cape Bee Industry Association and the Western Cape Department of Agriculture.
Attendance is free and lunch is included.
