GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - In preparation of the Garden Route City Nature Challenge, training in the use of the app 'iNaturalist' will be provided in Mossel Bay, Knysna and Sedgefield.
iNaturalist.org is the platform used for the City Nature Challenge 2020 (CNC2020) in South Africa.
Observations uploaded to iNaturalist are included in international scientific databases and the platform allows anyone to take part and have access to like-minded individuals and expertise from across the world. More than 250 cities are competing worldwide and the Garden Route district municipal area has registered to participate as a geographical area. The organisers are hoping that the Garden Route will beat last year's winner Cape Town.
Cape Town, Tshwane, Nelson Mandela Bay, Durban and Gaborone are taking part in CNC2020 as well.
GET Green, GET Trained
The Garden Route effort is supported by the Group Editors Together community initiative, GET, by providing maximum publicity to the challenge through the five newspapers in the Garden Route. In Mossel Bay, training sessions will be held every Monday in March at 10:00 at The Merchant, Bland Street. Contact Sandra at email@example.com.
In Knysna, training will be offered on Saturday 29 February and Saturday 7 March at Brenton Haven Hotel at 12:00.

Training in Sedgefield will be held on Tuesday 3 March at 10:00 at Slow Roasted. Contact Dr. Louw Claassens on 082 928 9391 or email@example.com.
Interested persons must bring along their phone and laptop and an observation or two that they can upload. It is essential to RSVP directly to the convener.
