HESSEQUA NEWS - A helicopter and fixed-wing spotter aircraft together with a technical crew will be stationed at Stilbaai until the end of the fire season on 31 March 2020.
This was made possible after a request from Hessequa municipality to the Western Cape provincial government.
According to Limakatso Khalianyane from Working on Fire (WOF), aerial support, two pilots, a flying crew, seven helitack team and three bomber loaders were made available.
In total 14 crew members, including an aviation support vehicle driver, will be on duty during the season.
The aerial support and crew members which arrived in Stilbaai on 7 December will contribute significantly to mitigating the high risk of fires in the region during the fire season.
According to Hessequa municipality's manager: Protection Services, Adneshel Voss, this is beneficial to Hessequa as aerial support will be available to reach incidents much faster opposed to when it was stationed at the George WOF station.
