HESSEQUA ELECTION NEWS - Voters who want to cast a special vote during the by-election in April, must register now.
The Electoral Commission has compiled the election timetable for municipal by-elections to be held on 10 April 2019.
By-elections will take place in Ward 4 of the Hessequa Municipality, Ward 18 of the George Municipality and Ward 9 of the Stellenbosch Municipality.
These by-elections were proclaimed on 8 March.
In preparation for the by-elections the chief electoral officer has already taken certain actions. By 14 March the officer had certified the segments of the voters’ roll for the voting districts to be used in the by-elections and had given notice that copies of a list of voting stations and their addresses would be available for inspection at the office of the Commission’s local representative.
The cut-off date for nomination of ward candidates to contest the election was 17:00 on 18 March.
By 22 March notice was given of the route to be followed by mobile voting stations, including times of stopping.
By 25 March the commission had compiled and certified a list of ward candidates. Copies of these lists are available at the office of the Commission’s local representative. The cut-off date for issuing the prescribed certi?cate to the ward candidate was also 25 March.
If required, a voter may apply to cast a special vote within the voting district where he/she is registered. These applications will be received from 25 March.
Such a voter may cast their special vote between 08:00 and 17:00 on 9 April, and voting officers must visit them at home, if required, to afford them the opportunity to cast their votes.
