HESSEQUA ELECTION NEWS - According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), national and provincial elections are two different elections which are held on the same day.
The elections held on Wednesday 8 May is to choose representatives to the National Assembly and Provincial Legislatures.
Elections are an important way for people to debate and decide on their country's future. It also provides an opportunity for voters to put to use their constitutional rights.
National Government makes and carries out laws and policies for the whole country. It is made up of Parliament led by the speaker, and the National Government led by the president and ministers. Your national vote is for a political party to represent you in the National Assembly.
Provincial Government makes and carries out laws and policies that affect the province only. It is made up of Legislature led by the speaker and Provincial Government led by the Premier and Members of the Executive Council (MECs). Your Provincial vote is for a political party to represent you in the Provincial Legislature.
On voting day, women with gel or other products on their nails should make sure that a bit of their natural nail is visible. The ink has to stain your skin and nail. The IEC confirmed that a certified copy of your bar-coded ID is not a valid form of identification.
