STILL BAY NEWS - Two men from Still Bay were arrested on Friday 19 July when police seized drugs estimated at R252 million.
The suspects were arrested after Still Bay police reacted to information about suspicious activity at the harbour.
On their way to the harbour, they saw a vehicle pulling a rubber duck on a trailer, which fitted the description they were given.
When they saw the police, the suspects sped off, but the police brought the vehicle, a Toyota Pajero, to a halt on the Jongensfotein road. The suspects tried to run away into nearby bushes, but their freedom was short-lived when they were tracked down and arrested at a local accommodation establishment.
"Upon searching the rubber duck the police found 14 bags containing 400 bricks of cocaine," said Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies.
They also seized the Pajero and the rubber duck with the trailer.
The suspects, a Russian man (39) and a 48-year-old man from Gauteng, are facing charges of dealing in drugs and the matter was transferred to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation(DPCI) for further investigation.
Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape Lieutenant General (Adv) Thembisile Patekile, only had praise for the officers, who swiftly acted on the information, for their vigilance which ensured that the consignment of drugs was removed from the streets.
