BUSINESS NEWS - Romain Trousset and Patrick Gambier seized the opportunity to buy the Afripet plant in Mossdustria in March 2018. Afripet has been manufacturing quality dog food since 2006, operating at a small scale until now. The two French nutritionists are planning to develop the activity and are proud to announce the launch of their new brand Amigo, which means “friend” in Spanish and Portuguese. According to Romain, the European pet food industry is extremely dynamic and they want to make use of their knowledge and expertise to manufacture high quality dog food with ingredients sourced locally from around the Garden Route and Klein Karoo. Therefore the location of the manufacturing plant is ideal.
Their aim is to build their new business on rock solid relationships, integrity and mutual confidence between suppliers, staff, neighbouring facilities and of course the pet owners.
Their strict criteria for sourcing ingredients will be one of the key elements in producing a pet food that is healthy, natural and locally available.
In the last few months, the new owners have focused on strengthening the quality control system on sourced raw materials, production process and finished products.
Amigo dog food is prepared fresh in a small kitchen, using only carefully selected constituents. Over 20 quality checks and controls are performed before using any ingredients. This ensures that all dogs consistently get the same high quality, nutritious and tasty food.

The main focus will be to supply the local South African market before exporting. The product range will consist of dog food called Amigo Integrity and Amigo Confidence, dog treats and healthcare products which will all be manufactured for happy and healthy pets as friends deserve the best!
