Savannah Helicopter Training operates out of its George base, providing helicopter training to both private individuals and budding commercial helicopter pilots and instructors.
No formal qualification is required to train as a helicopter pilot and no previous flying experience is needed.
The following licences are offered:
- Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
- Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
A student can start training for a PPL at the age of 15 and receive the licence by the age of 17.
The student must pass the following subjects for the PPL with at least 75%:
- Aviation meteorology
- Flight performance and planning
- General navigation
- Aircraft general
- Principles of flight
- Human performance and limitations
- Air law
- Radio licence
The student must also complete 50 hours of flying. Additional training is provided in a flight simulator. After obtaining the PPL, the pilot can move on to the CPL.
For this course the student needs to do at least 150 additional flight hours and pass nine subjects.
