ALBERTINIA NEWS - If you are already a beekeeper, or if busy buzzing bees intrigue you and you want to learn more about their well-being and why our lives depend on them, then you are in luck.
The Southern Cape Bee Industry Association (SCBIA), in collaboration with the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, is offering a field day with the theme 'Bees on canola and how to manage colonies', in Albertinia on 5 August.
SCBIA is a non-profit organisation that aims to protect the interests of its members and those interested in the bee industry by informing them about important matters / decisions at provincial and national level.
The SCBI and its national umbrella organisation, the South African Bee Industry Organisation (Sabio), are the mouthpiece to the department.
Registration for the event starts at 08:00. The day will include a variety of talks from industry experts, the benefits and challenges of Canola for bees, as well as lunch and a practical session with open hives to demonstrate hive management and check for diseases.
The day will conclude at about 13:15.
Necessary protective gear will be provided. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Charles Salmon at charles.salmon@westerncape.gov.za or send him a WhatsApp on 082 651 7466.
