GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Professional triathlete Matt Trautman concluded last weekend's Triathlon Clinic, hosted by Bayethe Multisport Academy, by riding half of the 70.3 Ironman route in Mossel Bay together with various athletes from the Garden Route.
The weekend started with the clinic on Saturday 27 November at the Garden Route Casino from 09:00 until 12:00. Trautman educated athletes about the skill of a triathlete, among others.
On Sunday, Trautman and the participants cycled a section of the Ironman route. "The route in Mossel Bay is beautiful and we really enjoyed the ride in town," said Trautman.
However, he thinks Mossel Bay needs a swimming pool for its triathletes. Upcoming triathlon athlete Bonga Nkqintiza of Mossel Bay was among those who attended the weekend.
Nkqintiza has been making a name in the world of triathlon and qualified for the SA Triathlon Championship 2021.
Bayethe Multisport Academy is assisting Bonga in his ventures. The academy is based in Mossel Bay and focuses on introducing township youth to cycling and triathlon (swim, cycle and run).
The triathlon clinic was a fundraising event and all proceeds will go towards supporting the academy's athletes and growing the sport in Mossel Bay.
