SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Six Fish Eagle Aquatic swimmers attended the 2018 SA National Junior Championships (SANJs), which was held at the Kings Park Pool in Durban.
They were Matthew van Coller (12), Izaan Hough (16), Arianne Bouer, AC Kleynhans (17), Gustav Schlechter (15) and Luard Elstadt (13).
730 swimmers from 120 clubs attended the SANJs. Fish Eagle Aquatics (FEA) came 31st overall of all clubs that attended. FEA were the best placed Eden Aqautics club at the gala and even out-performed well-known Port Elizabeth clubs like Aquabear and PEA. Clubs from Zimbabwe, Namibia and Mozambique were also in action, which gave the event an international flavour.
All six swimmers from FEA achieved personal best times in individual events and Arianne Bauer and Izaan Hough will join AC Kleynhans and Gustav Schlechter at the SA National Youth Championships, which will be held at the Newton Park Pool in Port Elizabeth during April.
Luard Elstadt probably achieved what is the best result ever by a Fish Eagle swimmer at a Swim South Africa national gala event. He was crowned SA Champ in the 100m breast stroke event, came second in the 50m breast stroke and fly events and third in the 200m breaststroke and 50m back stroke for a total of 5 medals. He broke five Eden Aquatics records.
Gustav Schlechter also broke the Eden Aquatics 50m fly record for 15-year-olds and also his own 100m freestyle record.
