Update
STILBAAI SPORT NEWS - The second Stilbaai Funduro for dirt bike riders takes place on Saturday, 14 November.
Riders will be able to experience the scenic outskirts of Stilbaai when they take to the 90 kilometre route.
The event starts and finishes at the open area next to The Stables just outside the town, from where motorbike riders will follow a marked, predominantly tight single track through valleys and hills until it passes through Melkhoutfontein in the direction of Droëvlakte.
After the first 50 kilometres, riders will refuel at Putstop, from where they will continue on a roundabout route to finish again at The Stables. The route will include sections for more skillful riders, who choose to tackle the red sections, while the green sections are more suited to those less brave and experienced.
According to the organiser, Hendrik Visser, it will take the average rider four to five hours to complete the route, which is not recommended for novices and children under the age of 14, due to the length and degree of difficulty.
This event was hosted for the first time last year and 85 riders from as far as Porterville, the Cape and Port Elizabeth travelled to Stilbaai to participate. Visser and Adolf Botes have been preparing the route for the past two months to ensure that it is safe and enjoyable.
All finishers will receive a special medal, while there will be lucky draw prizes, including a Husqvarna pressure wash to the value of R2 000, a helmet, water-resistant bags for motorcycles and other products.
Riders can still enter for the event at https://mystilbaai.co.za/stilbaai-funduro/, where all the information is also available. Entries will also be accepted on Friday afternoon, 13 November from 12:00, as well as Saturday morning from 07:00 at The Stables. The cost is R350 per rider.
With so much to see and do in Stilbaai, the rest of the family can explore the town or spend time on the beach.
This event is made possible with the support of the Hessequa Explorer's Garden Route.
