GARDEN ROUTE | HESSEQUA | KAROO SPORT NEWS - After the level 3 announcement of the national lock down and the publishing of the new regulations in the Government Gazette on 11 June, a large number of sport codes can once again start to train.
Training and non-contact sport matches for professional athletes may resume in compliance with the health protocols, without any spectators.
All sport bodies must within 14 days from 11 June, provide the minister with an operational plan and the date of resumption of training and matches. The sport bodies must adhere to and keep register of professional athletes and comply with the guidelines for quarantine.
All bodies must comply with screening and testing, disinfecting and cleaning of venues, control measures, monitoring and appointment of compliance officers.
Only athletes, support staff and officials under the age of 60 who have been tested for Covid-19 and with no comorbidities, are allowed to participate.
Sport bodies for hearing impaired persons, for the intellectually impaired and the physically disabled, must submit a plan and measures to the minister to be put in place before any resumption of training and matches.
Non-contact category
The following 25 sport bodies are included in the non-contact category: Archery, Athletics (only leagues for international, major competitions or Olympics qualification), Baseball SA, Badminton SA, Canoeing SA, Cycling SA, Equestrian SA (no cross- border training), Golf SA, Gymnastics SA, Rowing SA, Sailing SA, Shooting SA, Table Tennis SA, Tennis SA, Triathlon SA, Volleyball SA (outdoor), Softball SA, South African Sport Anglers and Casting Confederation, Snow Sport, Chess SA, Cricket SA, Bowls SA, Squash SA, Jukskei and Pigeon organisation.
Professional athletes
Only professional athletes may resume training in the following codes: Basketball, Fencing, Football, Handball, Hockey, Rugby (only players and support staff for local elite league with a non-contact training methodology), Figure skating, Athletics (preparation for national championships and Olympic qualification), Ice hockey, Motor sport and Netball (leagues only).
