Update
STILBAAI NEWS - South Africa's top extreme endurance adventurer, Gaven Sinclair, started off on a 1 000km coastal run from Gqeberha (formerly Nelson Mandela Bay) to Cape Town on 1 October on a story of hope and courage for those with chronic lifestyle disease.
Sinclair reached Stilbaai on Thursday, 21 October, and although he covered about half of the route and had a 51km run from Boggomsbaai, near Mossel Bay on the day, he looked like somebody who just walked around the block.
It is an unsupported run and he must carry his food and water in his backpack, which weighs about 15kg.
He plans to reach Cape Town tomorrow, 30 October.
He is tackling the Heel2Heal challenge to promote a healthier lifestyle among South Africans. Recent research states that South Africa is one of the unhealthiest countries in the world and more than 60% of the adult population are living with a chronic condition.
Although his end goal is surviving 1 000km, someone with a chronic disease similarly needs to approach their challenge in 1mm shifts. "That is a 365mm turnaround in a year and by doing it, you inspire others to make their own 1mm shifts," he said.
Sinclair is driven to inspire, motivate and make a difference and after being an ambassador for Missing Children SA for four years, he received The Purple Heart of SA award for his humanitarian work in 2019. If you see him along the way, you are more than welcome to join him on his run.
