STILBAAI NEWS - Stilbaai Karate Club, that is one of the smallest clubs in the area, earned a total of 56 medals at the recent Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karatedo Kyokai (OGKK) National Championships held on 12 May in Stellenbosch.
This club consists of learners of the local Bertie Barnard Primary School as well as learners from Volschenk Primary and Langenhoven High School in Riversdale, homeschoolers from Albertinia and adults.
Bertie Barnard medallists were Waytt Grittifths (1 silver, 1 bronze), Armand Farre (1 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze), Johannes van Zyl (1 silver), Wiehan Kok (1 silver, 3 bronze), Jaco de Bruin (1 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze), Wiehan van As (1 gold, 1 silver), Jabu Ntsalaze (3 bronze), Eben Vorster (2 silver), Robyn Rischmuller (3 gold), Alrich Rademeyer (1 gold, 1 silver), Aedan Rischmuller (2 bronze), CJ van der Walt (1 gold, 1 silver), CJ Crous (1 bronze), Paige Antonio (1 gold), Quentin Schutte (1 bronze) and Braam Lubbe (1 gold).
Franco van Niekerk (1 gold) and Ricus Breyl (1 bronze) are from Volschenk Primary School while Anré Farre (1 silver, 1 bronze), Nadia de Briun (2 bronze) and Rosa van Zyl (1 gold, 1 silver) are learners at Langenhoven High School. Gysie Rademeyer (1 silver, 1 bronze) and Hendrik Coetzee (1 gold, 2 bronze) are home schoolers.
The adults who earned medals were Sanet de Bruin (1 gold, 1 bronze) who was also the team manager. Sandra van Jaarsveld (1 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze) and Karlien van Zyl (1 gold). According to the instructor, Brenda Neate, the dedication of the parents and the commitment of the youngsters, play an important role in the success of the club.
The next step is the Africa Gojurya Championship on 21 and 22 September in Stellenbosch which are the trials for the World Gojurya Karate Federation Championship in Malaysia in 2019.
