RUGBY NEWS - Springbok rugby crossed its own Rubicon on Monday as Rassie Erasmus announced that Siyamthanda Kolisi would lead the national rugby side into battle for the three test series against England next month.
And while in the larger scope of things any appointment of a Springbok captain would be a point of debate at watercoolers all along the country, this one stands out not only because Kolisi becomes the first black captain to lead the Springboks into a test match battle, but also because of the larger, and more profound barriers that it breaks down.
Because in South African rugby, with all its flaws and problems, Kolisi is a shining light in the darkness that often surrounds us. In a world where results and money often determine everything in rugby, to see one of rugby’s nice guys succeed supercedes all the negativity.
