SWELLENDAM NEWS - The Electoral Commission (IEC) - Western Cape reminds registered voters in the Langeberg and Swellendam municipalities that applications for Special Votes in the upcoming by-elections will open on Monday 29 September and close on Friday 3 Octoberat 17:00.
The by-elections are scheduled for Wednesday 15 October and will take place in Ward 4 (Langeberg Municipality) and Ward 6 (Swellendam Municipality).
All registered citizens in these wards are encouraged to make their mark and participate.
There are two types of special votes available:
• Voting at the voting station before Election Day - for registered voters unable to be at their voting station on 15 October.
• Home visits - for registered voters who are ill, disabled, or otherwise unable to travel to their voting station.
Applications can be made:
Online at www.elections.org.za
Via SMS (R1.00 per SMS) by sending your ID number to 32249 (for voting station special votes).
By completing a manual application form (MEC35), downloadable from the IEC website or available at local IEC offices. Completed forms must be returned to the local IEC office.
Manual submissions can be delivered to:
• Ward 4, Langeberg: Thusong Centre, c/o Paddy and Wesley Street, Robertson
• Ward 6, Swellendam: IEC Local Office, 18 Voortrek Street, Swellendam
• Special votes will be cast on Tuesday 14 October between 08:00 and 17:00, either at the voting station or during an IEC home visit.
Voters must present one of the following to cast their special vote:
• Green barcoded ID book
• Smartcard ID
• Valid temporary identification certificate
