ALBERTINIA NEWS - Garden Route District Municipality's (GRDM's) Fire Service was alerted of a wildfire in Albertinia yesterday, 6 March, in the afternoon at around 16:00.
A subsequent request for assistance was received from the Hessequa Municipality for Fire Services.
The GRDM team in Riversdale was immediately deployed to the fire scene, which was nearby the Klein Boere farming area.
Crews from GRDM Fire Station in George later joined the operations.
Local volunteer firefighting support services of Albertinia, the Working on Fire (WoF) crew, as well as the Hessequa Municipality Fire Services were also in attendance.
Crews managed to get the fire under control late last night, and the GRDM nightshift crews furthermore proceeded to secure the entire fire perimeter.
Today, crews from GRDM George and Riversdale, Hessequa Fire Services, and WoF, will mop up the entire area with the objective of 100% extinguishment of the fire at 18:00 this evening.
