Update
STILBAAI NEWS - The Western Cape South African Local Government Association (Salga) hosted the 2018 Provincial Members' Assembly (PMA) from Monday 20 to Wednesday 22 August in the community hall.
The PMA is a constitutional meeting of all municipalities which is convened in between Provincial Conferences and this year, Stilbaai was chosen for this three-day meeting. The PMA was addressed by the MEC for Economic Opportunities which highlighted some of the economic challenges and the role municipalities should play to stimulate local economies.
Other key topics that were discussed was the problem of land invasions and what needs to be done to tackle this problem as well as the impact of climate change and ensuring that we become water resilience in the long term.
Participants that attended included the MEC Alan Winde (Western Cape Ministry for Economic Opportunities), Xolile George (Salga Chief Executive Officer), Ald Anton Coetsee (Chairperson of the Provincial Executive Committee), Salga Provincial Executive Committee, Chairperson of Salga Women's Commission, Executive Mayors, Speakers, Chief Whips, Municipal Managers and CFO's, as well as delegates from Provincial Government and key stakeholders in local government.
In his opening address, Ald Coetsee thanked the Hessequa Executive Mayor, Grant Riddles, for his warm welcome to Hessequa Municipality and to the beautiful town of Stilbaai, while he also congratulated the Hessequa Municipality on its successes and clean audit.

Topics that were discussed included the study on the demarcation process and its implications on good governance and financial sustainability on local government; drought and climate resilience; land invasions, evictions and community/service delivery protests.
