ALBERTINIA NEWS - Martin and Karen Hobbs live completely off the grid on Kleinboere Smallholdings some 3 km outside Albertinia.

They wanted to build a house that leaves as small an ecological footprint as possible, so Martin designed their 108 sqm house to make use of solar power and gas.

“We didn’t even realise there was load-shedding!” 

To live off the grid needs lifestyle changes, he says, “but you don’t have to live like a hippie when you go off-grid”.
