The Disaster Management Centre was placed on readiness from 09:00 on Monday 31 August (today) until 12:00 tomorrow, 1 September as severe weather is expected to be unleashed in the Overberg District, southern parts of the Breede River Valley today, spreading to the Eden District tonight persisting through tomorrow.
South African Weather Services in Cape Town up-scaled their severe weather alert from a Watch to a Warning. Gerhard Otto, manager of Emergency Services/MDMC Management Services, instructed local authorities, "Please keep your personnel on high alert, and inform the Eden MDMC of any major service disruptions, evacuations or fatalities."
Wouter Jacobs ,Eden's Disaster Management officer, said Eden 's high-risk profile indication for the district is that all estuaries on the Garden Route pose a threat in times of flood warnings.
