GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The number of recorded active Covid-19 cases per 100 000 of the population in the Garden Route has dropped from 57 to 49 in the past week.
Disaster management chief Gerhard Otto welcomed the sustained downward trend. Apart from Hessequa, all the sub-districts have shown a decline.
"The change in Hessequa is negligible, and not of concern,” said Otto. “Thembalethu, George, had 12 new cases this last weekend and careful monitoring and support will be put in place."
The number of recorded active cases per 100 000 per sub-district is as follows (with last week's figure in brackets): Hessequa 45 (39), Mossel Bay 37 (49), George 54 (63), Knysna 42 (51), Bitou 19 (28), Kannaland 71 (93) and Oudtshoorn 75 (78).
New batch of vaccines arriving today
Otto said ongoing planning and implementation for the Covid-19 vaccine programme is taking place. "The Department of Health reported that the full quota of 320 vaccines that were received last week were utilised, and 320 health workers have been vaccinated. We expect the next tranche of vaccines to arrive today, Monday 8 March."
During this week, health workers from George, Mossel Bay and Knysna will be vaccinated.
