RIVERSDALE NEWS - The fifth annual Extreme Ride 4 Hunger cycle tour visited the town on Wednesday 4 March, on a scorchingly hot day.
The tired and parched, but happy, cyclists stopped at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on the fourth leg of their six-day ride to raise awareness of the plight of poor people and to deliver much-needed supplies to communities. They had left Oudtshoorn that morning and rode in temperatures of over 40 degrees. Their destination for the night was Swellendam.
The 20 riders and their support team set out from Kimberley on 1 March. On their 1 000km long route they stopped in eight towns before arriving in Cape Town on Friday 6 March.
The cycle tour is an initiative of the Northern Cape branch of Meals on Wheels community services. In Riversdale, they distributed 35 food parcels for the elderly and 60 stationery parcels for primary school kids.
