When it comes to property for sale in Riversdale, and around South Africa, women are starting to showcase their strength in the property market.
Equality between men and women remains a global issue, but progress continues to be made and if recent data in the property market is anything to go by, then change is certainly on the cards.
A trusted source for data in the property and automotive industries, Lightstone recently revealed that women around South Africa are starting to purchase more property, and in fact, in many provinces they have surpassed single men and married couples in terms of volume.
This, Lead Analyst at Lightstone, Cindy Bezuidenhout, says could be due to the fact that women are becoming more economically powerful.
Looking at the information a little more closely, women in Gauteng were making the most significant difference, as they surged ahead of single males and married couples, with a notable increase in sales to single females since 2016. This was also the case in the Eastern Cape, although there is not as large of a gap between the types of buyers in this province.
In the Western Cape, married couples still topped the list in terms of the number of properties bought, which was mirrored in KwaZulu-Natal. However, single women moved to second on the list here, followed by single males.
Despite the difference in terms of overall volume, the levelling of the playing field was not significant all around, and this was clear when looking at the data regarding average sales prices. Here, women remain in the lowest bracket, and according to Bezuidenhout, this could be an indication of the differences between amounts earned by men and women in the workplace.
