MOTORING NEWS - The launch for the 23rd George Old Car Show took place on Friday 2 November. The show is driven by Oakhurst Insurance Company and will take place on 9 and 10 February 2019. The George Municipality also confirmed its continued support.
"George mayor Melvin Naik believes the show is making a major contribution to the city of George and therefore pledged a much larger donation," said Japie Beyers, the media spokesman for the Southern Cape Old Car Club committee that organises the show.
EXCEPTIONAL CARS
The focus in the main arena will be on rare and exotic cars, such as dr Waldo Scribante's 1971 Porsche 914, of which only seven were manufactured.
"We want to focus on rare collectors' items which are not readily available to everybody. We believe that these cars will lend special status to the show."
The show will be the last to take place at PW Botha College in York Street.
VETERAN TOUR
The Veteran Tour will take place on the eve of the show on 8 February. "The Veteran Tour, supported by Airoclassics, will depart from Klaarstroom on Friday morning," said tour organiser Philip Kuschke. "We expect some 20 cars to take place. Two or three of these will be single cylinder cars manufactured before 1905 and will fit in nicely with the focus on rare and exclusive cars."
REGISTRATION
Only vehicles manufactured before 1975 which have been registered in advance, may be exhibited at the show. Registration has opened and can be done on the website, www.scocc.co.za, or contact Klaus Oellrich on 076 764 0897 for more information.
