GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - For nature and animal lovers, there are several places to visit in the Garden Route region.
The Gouritz Lion, Bird and Reptile Park
It is along the N2, 16km outside Albertinia towards Mossel Bay, at the Gouritz River Bridge. The familyfriendly facility was born out of passion and love for animals. The park is home to a number of different animals, which include Nile crocodiles, various snake species, various tortoises, macaws and many other birds, white lions and white Bengal tigers. The green-winged macaw is native to South America and is considered an endangered species. The venue also has guides who accompany visitors and share their knowledge on the environment and the animal kingdom.
Garden Route Game Lodge
It is important for our children to learn to appreciate nature and the wild. The game lodge offers a supervised children’s activity programme that will keep the children entertained, giving mom and dad some time to relax. Set against the backdrop of the majestic Langeberg mountain range, the Garden Route Game Lodge “guards” the entrance to South Africa’s world famous Garden Route coast. Only three and a half hours’ scenic drive from Cape Town, this malaria-free, family owned and operated private game reserve is home to an abundance of animal and bird life, including the big five. Visitors to the game lodge can enjoy game viewing in open Landrovers.
Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve
Are you one of those people who loves to escape to nature? Travel lightly and head to the heart of the rustic Langeberg region between Heidelberg and Swellendam. Wake up to panoramic views of an enchanted forest and a choir of chirping birds in one of the most beautiful places in the region. The reserve offers an array of things to do, from mountain biking, hiking and birding to lounging and stargazing at your own private fire pit.
