WITSAND NEWS - The NSRI Witsand (Station 33 ) welcomed their new training crew recently.
The team of volunteers, who are committed to saving lives at sea, had their first official training session and introduction to sea rescue.
It also entailed learning valuable skills in water rescue and emergency response.
According to Station Commander, Reinard Geldenhuys, many small coastal towns in South Africa struggle to recruit crew, therefore new volunteers will go a long way to strengthen the station.
Geldenhuys explained that Witsand is a Class 4 Station and has a jet rib on station. “The main focus of the station is to assist with drowning incidents in the river mouth, beach and in the river itself.
The station is supported by the flanking stations of Stilbaai and Agulhas with their bigger boats.”
