HESSEQUA NEWS - Riversdale police arrested a suspect (29) on charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm after he tried to run away from them.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, the man was spotted by police in Mulder Road and started running.
"A chase ensued and his freedom was short-lived when police caught up with him," said Spies.
The man pointed a firearm at the officers, but he was swiftly overpowered and arrested. The police confiscated a firearm and ammunition. He was subsequently arrested on the mentioned charges.
The suspect is scheduled to make his first court appearance in the Riversdale Magistrate's Court today, Monday 20 November. He remains in custody.
In an unrelated matter, Swellendam Police conducted an operation in Gazelle Street, Railton, following information on illegal activities from the public.
"The members conducted a thorough search of the premises when they found 360 Mandrax tablets and some Mandrax powder. The police confiscated the drugs and arrested a 39-year-old man on a charge of dealing in drugs," said Spies.
