STILBAAI NEWS - A number of women are determined to make this world a better place for all.
They are members of the Christian Women's Agricultural Association (CWAA), commonly known as VLV, who meet every second Tuesday of the month to discuss matters of concern.
Informative presentations and demonstrations by guests at their regular meetings were focused on their theme for 2019, namely 'Leave a Footprint' and their project 'Plastic our enemy'.
At a recent meeting, Mari Swart, the new owner of Stilbaai Kennels, was introduced to the members. These kennels are situated at Olive Grove Farm on the outskirts of the coastal town and can house 40 dogs and six cats, but during the December holidays, they can accommodate up to 60 dogs.
During the meetings, the members were also introduced to the bird of the year, namely the secretary bird (Sagittarius serpentarius) and the trees of the year, which include the marula tree (Sclerocarya birrea) and appelblaar (Philenoptera violacea), also known as the rain tree.
Earlier this year, the members visited local Kasselshoop cheese factory where a variety of cheeses are handcrafted. During the visit, they learned that the enterprise is also involved in recycling plastic cheese wrappers, which are changed into cattle feeding troughs, and wine boxes that are being used as shopping bags.
The CWAA invites ladies to join the organisation. Contact chair Delene van Schalkwyk at 082 967 0113 or Carol Scott at 082 783 4127 for more information.
