GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The CANSA Southern Cape Karoo region is privileged to be reckoned with three very special ladies, Sadiyah Moerat, Merle Singh and Lorraine Verhagen who received very prestigious global awards at the CANSA Relay For Life summit.
The event was hosted at Olifants River Lodge near Middleburg over the weekend of 9 June.
Moerat was one of five South Africans who received the award as 'Global Hero of Hope'. Sadiyah, a young mother of two who survived cancer and who was willing to share her amazing testimony was chosen as one of the Global Heroes who inspire survivors to keep on fighting against cancer.
Singh, Chairperson of the Garden Route Relay for Life, received the 'Global Spirit of Relay volunteer award" which in short means that she has been recognised as the best Relay For Life volunteer in the world, while Verhagen, Chairperson Relay For Life George received the second prize for 'Global Spirit of Relay - Best Relay award' on behalf of the George Relay, which means that their relay hosted in 2017/2018 book year came second globally as the 'Best Relay'.
Other prizes that was won by the Southern Cape Karoo region, was first prize 'Best Fight Back and Mission Delivery' by CANSA Relay For Life Hessequa (Riversdale) and third most income raised by a Relay – CANSA George Relay For Life.
Verhagen thanked the George Herald, the committee members, the George community and local businesses in George for supporting this event. CANSA congratulate and salute all the individuals and committees involved. "Thank you so much for taking hands with CANSA in the fight against cancer - #togetherwecan."
