STILL BAY NEWS - Early yesterday morning, 7 September, Still Bay SAPS in conjunction with Public Order Police (POPS) and Langeberg K-9 (Dog Unit), pounced on the residence of three drug dealers and seven of their pedlars, arresting all 10 suspects.
According to Southern Cape Police Spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie, a string of sting operations conducted at the said premises since 2020, culminated in the arrests.
During this period, various clandestine drug transactions were conducted. This operation emanated from a project that was registered in 2020 by Still Bay SAPS to address major crime within their precinct. A total of 24 cases of drug dealing have been positively linked to these arrests.
A further three suspects were arrested: one for possession of drugs and two who had outstanding warrants of arrests for possession of dangerous weapons and theft. Consequent to these arrests, members confiscated 65 grams of dagga, 1 gram of Mandrax powder, 84 grams of Tik and 10 full Mandrax tablets as well as R1 235 in cash.
All the suspects, aged between 19 and 42 including a 27-year-old female, will appear in the Riversdale Magistrates court today, Wednesday, 8 September.
The Acting Eden Cluster Commander, Brig Phumzile V Cetyana lauded the police for their efforts to eradicate drug distribution in the Southern Cape.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen T Patekile had nothing but praise for the police and encouraged all members to align themselves with the strategic and operational objectives of the SAPS to ensure that communities become drug free.
