HEIDELBERG NEWS - A resident, Wim Vorster, was the recipient of the coveted Eric Butter Philanthropy Award on Saturday 15 October at the Mr Gay World™ pageant in the Artscape, Cape Town.
Due to illness, the president and founder of Mr Gay World™ Eric Butter, couldn't attend the occasion. The award was present by attorney and activist Coenie Kukkuk. Hosts for the evening were Elzabé Zietsman and Earl Gregory.
"The award is given to an individual who possesses extraordinary selflessness in the greater community in moving diversity acceptance forward. This individual is a leader and inspires those around him to be their best," Kukkuk said.
"The goal of the award is to bring public recognition to dynamic individuals from around the world, whose values infuse their humanitarian accomplishments, and inspire the next generations, specifically in diversity issues within the LGBTQIA+ and HIV/Aids community."
Vorster is also honoured for furthering arts and culture amongst all communities.
"I am honoured, privileged and above all, grateful. My career and life have never been geared toward winning prizes or being awarded. Yet it has happened on occasion. This one is very, very special to me," Vorster said.
