HESSEQUA NEWS - What's the one thing people don't tell you about staying warm in winter? It’s the fact that it often leaves a dent in your bank account. Between buying warmer clothing and always keeping the heater on, it's easy for your bank balance to drop as fast as the temperature.
Luckily, there are plenty of ways to keep warm without burning a hole in your pocket.
Wear the Right Clothes
Pile on the layers and don't forget to don a hat, gloves, and a scarf. But the material your clothes are made from is equally as important. Clothes made from wool, cotton, or fleece are the warmest. Keep your feet warm by wearing socks and slippers when you're indoors.??
Have Something Warm to Eat & Drink
Porridge, soups, and stews are probably already on your menu this winter, but don't forget to drink something warm. And no, your options aren't limited to instant coffee and tea. Hot chocolate and premium blends such as cappuccinos are just some of the hot beverages you can enjoy to keep yourself warm.
Keep Moving
Circulation is the magic word in winter. Get a bit of movement at least one hour a day and avoid sitting still for too long. Even light exercise can help keep you warm. When you sit down, make sure your feet are up as it’s coldest nearest the floor.
Do a Bit of Window Watching
During the day, open your curtains on the side of your house where the sunlight comes in. Close these curtains just before sunset to trap the heat indoors and shut out the night's chilly wind. While you're at it, use a lit candle to detect if there's any wind blowing near windows and doors, then seal those windows and door bases.
Keep the Oven Open After Using It
If you've been near an oven or stove after it's used, you've felt the amount of heat that floods your face when it's opened. Once you are done cooking in your oven and you’ve safely switched it off, you can keep it open so that the excess heat can spread around the house.
Go Easy on the Booze
Looking for that rush of warmth you feel after a sip or two of your favourite wine? That's caused by blood rushing to the surface of your skin, which is why your cheeks look a bit rosy after a few sips. The only problem is that alcohol prevents your blood vessels from constricting, which causes you to lose body heat quickly.
You don't have to run up a huge bill to keep warm this winter. Just follow these inexpensive tips listed above to stay cosy when the temperature drops.
