HEIDELBERG NEWS - Ancha Adams and her brother, Aran of Heidelberg Karate Kyousei recently competed at the Eden Karate Federation national children, cadets and junior trials at the De Jagers Sports Centre in Oudtshoorn.
Karate athletes, affiliated to Eden karate competing to be selected into the Eden karate team that will take part in the Karate Association Western Cape trials next year.
The event was opened by the keynote address delivered by the president (ACT) of Eden Karate, Sensei Peter Adams. In his note, he emphasized that the reason for the gathering is the passion and love each one holds for the art of karate, and to the development of our youth.
He encouraged all the participants to do their best and to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play.
He ended off his address with the following quote from Jesse Owens, legendary American athlete who won four gold medals at the 1936 Summer Olympics, reworded for karate: "Friendships born on the tatami (karate mat) are the real gold of competition. Awards become corroded, but friends gather no dust."
Ancha won a silver medal in her kata event and gold in kumite. Aran won a gold medal in his kumite event. Both of them worked very hard during their rounds.
They displayed good form and fighting spirit against their competitors. Both are once again selected for the Eden Karate Federation.
