NATIONAL NEWS - Firefighters continue to monitor the slopes of Lion's Head and Signal Hill in Cape Town where a rapidly-spreading fire driven by a strong south-easter broke out today.
"At the moment, we're still attending to hotspots and flare-ups as they occur," Cape Town Fire and Rescue spokeswoman Liezl Moodie told Sapa at noon on Wednesday.
At one point on Tuesday evening, close to 200 firefighters were tackling the blaze. Some residents living near the Lion's Head and Signal Hill were evacuated as a precaution, although there were no reports of damage to property.
Moodie said some firefighters remained in the area, and were patrolling the burnt area.
"Currently, there are tree stumps that are still smouldering," she said.
