WITSAND NEWS - Reports of a suspected chemical fluid spillage between the Breede River Mouth and Takheining, a well-known fishing area are investigated by the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA).
NSRI Witsand/Port Beaufort duty crew were activated at 08:30 on Wednesday 30 August to assist them.
On the SAMSA inspectors' arrival at the sea rescue station in Witsand, the craft Breede Rescuer was launched.
According to Theo Erasmus, NSRI Witsand/Port Beaufort station commander, on arrival at the scene, the inspectors took samples of the water from what appears to be a diesel spillage.
The spillage will be monitored by authorities.
