GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT NEWS - Four suspect will make their first court appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrates Court today after they were arrested for being in possession of hundreds of Mandrax tablets.
Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie says the men were arrested in the early hours of Friday, 9 April on the Kleinberg Road between Heidelberg and Mossel Bay.
Pojie says Da Gamaskop cluster crime combatting team members assisted by provincial traffic officials were strategically deployed on secondary roads within the Da Gamaskop cluster rural sector. He says this follows information received from their neighbouring cluster of a suspicious red bakkie.
“Members flagged down the vehicle to stop on the Kleinberg Road, but the driver evaded the members and sped on. Eventually members in pursue managed to stop the vehicle with four occupants and upon searching the vehicle, found 670 full size, 40 half- and 77 quarter Mandrax Tablets and more than R22 000 in cash, concealed in the vehicle.” Pojie says they believe the drugs were destined for the local lucrative drug market and have an estimated street value of about R70 000. The suspects are aged between 20 and 60 years.
The bakkie was confiscated by the police.
