HEIDELBERG NEWS - In collaboration with several law enforcement agencies, the Heidelberg Police have clamped down on undocumented immigrants over the last few days.
This operation, which was started on 23 June and ended on 30 June, was carried out under the auspices of Lieutenant Colonel Bongiwe Mthulu of the Heidelberg Police Station, and found 20 foreign nationals with no documentation, or with falsified documents.
According to the station’s Sergeant Keeno Fredericks, one person who was arrested is an employer of one of the undocumented foreign nationals.
Fredericks said among the arrested immigrants were citizens from Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Zambia, of which the majority are from the latter. They will now be handed over to the relevant government departments for processing and deportation to their country of birth.
Fredericks has urgently appealed to all residents to refrain from taking undocumented immigrants into their employment.
“Those found to be employing undocumented immigrants will be dealt with severely, according to the Immigration Act of South Africa,” he said.
