HEIDELBERG NEWS - The town of Heidelberg recently said goodbye to one of its unsung music legends on Thursday, 6 November.
Chris Nicholls (78), former director of the SA Army Band, passed away peacefully at Life Bay View Hospital after a short illness.
Well-known in the music industry - particularly among government regimental bands - Chris was also a co-founder and the first director of Gateway Radio, Hessequa's first Christian community radio station.
Together with his wife, Sally, a well-known opera singer, he established Gateway Radio in 2016, obtaining its broadcasting licence in 2018.
In addition to his wife Sally, to whom he was married for 55 years, he is survived by his daughter, son-in-law, and sister.
His life and legacy will be celebrated at a memorial service on Saturday, 15 November, at the Langeberg Christian Fellowship Centre, corner of the N2 and Barrydale turn-off.
