WESTERN CAPE NEWS - A new laboratory which can play a significant role in identifying high risk zoonotic diseases that can spread between animals has been added to the province’s veterinary laboratory services.
This is an important addition, especially in the light of the coronavirus which is suspected of having jumped from animals to humans.
“The Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) mobile laboratory is world-class, setting a high benchmark and best practice approach,” said provincial agriculture minister Dr. Ivan Meyer in Cape Town on Wednesday 29 January. “The facility ensures that we are at the cutting edge of measures to ensure that animal health leads to human health.”
