HESSEQUA NEWS - If your family has decided to go on vacation in the Southern Cape, remember to bring your hiking boots along because there are a large choice of hiking trails in this area to choose from.
Gouritsmond
Four trails of various lengths - 1,6km, 3km, 5km and 8km. More information at 028 713 7934 or 082 375 3050.
Riversdale
Crystal Valley Hiking Trail: Starts in the Garcia Pass and is 20,9km long. For reservations and permits: Cape Nature at 028 713 2366.
Sleeping Beauty Trail: From the Toll House to the top of Sleeping Beauty and back and leads over a distance of 13km. Contact 082 771 9107.
Witsand
Infanta Walk: Starts at Kontiki on the Western bank of the river and follows its sandy shore until it gives way to rocks at Kabeljoubank. Approximately 5km. No permits required.
Breede River Mouth: Meanders along the sandpit on the river of the eastern bank. At low tide the walk follows the river's edge and the sea, but at high tide, the route is across soft sand and dunes; 6km.
Moodies Well: Should be done at low tide; 8km and three hours out and return.
Puntjie: It follows the coastline from Witsand past Moodies Well, Voëlklip and Kleinfontein Beach to Puntjie, at the mouth of the Duivenhoks River. It can be done with a guide (Pietie: 082 738 2101) during spring low tide in summer; 15 to 20km.
River View: Passes along the River View Drive.
Skuitbaai: 3km, one hour.
Westfield Walk: 5 or 8km, two to two and a half hour.
